Nicholas was just a few weeks old when all his troubles emerged. He was very small and not developing. He was lethargic and had problems drinking from a baby bottle. "About a year later we found out he had cerebral palsy on top of the blindness," his mother said. With years of therapy from Kosair Children's Hospital and the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center/Easter Seals (another one of the KECC partner charities), Nicholas has shown major improvements. They've helped him communicate with signs and taught him to chew and drink. Just to stand on his feet and to try to take a step is a huge triumph. It's been a long, tough fight for Nicholas to get to where he is.
Kosair receives Crusade for Children funding which helps pay for equipment, education, teachers and therapists. In Nicholas' case it's added more to the life of a 7-year-old boy than his parents could ever have imagined.
